Appledore is a quaint little village located in North Devon, a short drive from the nearby town of Bideford and about a 25-minute drive from Barnstaple. It sits on the Torridge River and overlooks the pretty village of Instow, where you’ll find a beach that is very popular with local dog-walkers!
If you enjoy quaint fishing villages, with pretty cottages and some good pub food, Appledore is for you. It’s colourful rows of cottages and hidden streets are nice for a wander around, with a sprinkling of cute independent shops and tea-rooms too. Pick a street just off of the main quay and have a nosey! Appledore is a brilliant place to get lost in. Oh, and it’s also the home to the infamous Hockings Ice Cream, a North Devon must.
Appledore has a few quaint tea-rooms and cafes that are charming and have delicious offerings. Market Street Kitchen is tucked away behind the main quay and is a quaint little tea-room offering traditional lunches and home-made cakes. There is also the aptly named The Coffee Cabin (amazing iced-lattes!) and also John’s of Appledore (they have a John’s of Instow too!) which also is a farm-shop and deli.
For traditional fish and chips to eat on a bench overlooking the water, you’ll want to find either Sylvesters or The Royal Plaice. Pizza lovers can visit Flame Factory, a dog-friendly restaurant, located right on the main Quay. Or, for more of a treat, head on over to Irsha Street for dinner at The Royal George and ask to be seated in the conservatory, the views are brilliant!
I have two things! Firstly, find the cute little pink house down Irsha Street. ANNND make sure to try a Hockings Ice-Cream, you won’t be disappointed!
